Indeed, she gets fired from the supermarket for stealing expired food, and he struggles to stay sober long enough to get through an entire shift at the construction site where he works with his friend, Houtari (Kaurismäki veteran Janne Hyytiäinen, wonderful here as a wannabe lothario who possesses a divine confidence in his karaoke skills). There are exceptions to that rule across the director’s body of work, and the fact that “Fallen Leaves” is amusingly billed as the “lost” fourth film in his Proletarian Trilogy - which ended on an uncharacteristically bleak note with 1990’s “The Match-Factory Girl” - would seem cause for concern that things between Ansa and Holappa might not work out so well. ![]() They are (to a degree), but as tends to be the case in Kaurismäki’s films, their lives are also never quite as bleak as they seem. ![]() ‘Indiana Jones’ Producer Frank Marshall on the WGA Strike: ‘We Have to Figure Out a New Formula’ ![]()

6/29/2023 0 Comments Utopia avenue amazon![]() ![]() ![]() This decision will certainly be an interesting experiment, especially when it comes to copyright. ![]() Adobe remains positive in its announcement by implying this is simply a new avenue. It may have the unfortunate side effect of snuffing out that artistic spark in amateur artists. Many fear losing income as people flock to freely-available AI engines to generate art. Needless to say, a lot of artists across the internet have issues with technology like this. We'll update this story if Adobe responds. We asked Adobe if there’s going to be any moderation for licensing or if it’s all done on the honor system. On the surface, it appears Adobe won’t be asking for proof of copyright. Royalties earned on generated AI images are the same as other Stock content, according to Adobe. If the tool’s developers don’t want people to license creations for commercial use, you can’t submit them. It appears users are being asked to familiarize themselves with an AI tool’s terms and conditions when it comes to licensing AI-generated content. Adobe, on the other hand, is taking a crack at it. ![]() When it comes to image rights, some platforms, like Getty Images, have banned AI illustrations over potential copyright problems. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Unbelievable book katy tur![]() ![]() If you are somebody who doesn’t support Donald Trump, and you want to tell yourself that this is going to end soon - there’s going to be some magic headline that’s going to mean that Republicans all stop supporting him, or he gets impeached, or resigns, or Robert Mueller will find a way to end it - I think that you are missing a very big piece of history. And a few weeks later, they either did vote for him, or they bit their tongue and they stopped criticizing him in the same way. Fifty Republican lawmakers said that he should drop out or that they wouldn’t vote for him. At the end of last year, in October of 2016, the Access Hollywood tape came out. But also, his candidacy was declared dead so many times that I can’t count. Polls can be very misleading, because there is some degree of people feeling ashamed of their support for him, so they don’t want to publicly talk about it. ![]() "He has a strong, devoted base of support. Eat Them Alive is so bad it’s phenomenal. We’ve all seen things described as “so bad it’s good”, but this book takes that to another level. The plot sounds ridiculous, but more ridiculous still is the execution. “But now I’ve got something to live for – because I love watching a man being eaten by a monster! Maybe it’s a substitute for my lost virility, but I know it’s a joy I never thought I’d feel again!”įirst off, this is a book about a castrated psychopath who trains an army of giant, flesh-hungry praying mantises to torture and eat his enemies alive. ![]() This notoriety is due to three factors, its content, its unattainability, and the identity of its author. ![]() Eat Them Alive is one of the most notorious works of horror fiction. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments The wild swans jung chang![]() ![]() Chapter Three revolves around the personal experiences of Angelou, Saadawi, and Chang and analyses how their experiences differ from those most often represented in mainstream feminism. ![]() In Chapter Two, I explore Caged Bird, Hidden Face, and Wild Swans with regard to contemporary feminism by discussing the wave narrative and relevant topics discussed in the books. I first discuss feminist and literary theories and introduce relevant terms and definitions in the “Theoretical Framework,” before continuing with a discussion of the genre of autobiography in relation to feminism in Chapter One. I explore why reading autobiographical works that were published during earlier feminist waves and written by women from marginalised positions is important for the current feminist movement. This thesis argues why reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, The Hidden Face of Eve by Nawal El Saadawi, and Wild Swans by Jung Chang is relevant, even urgent, for contemporary feminism. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Sanibel flats by randy wayne white![]() You are the better character.Īs White celebrates the release of Caribbean Rim, his 25th Doc Ford novel, published earlier this year, we dig into a biography of Southwest Florida’s most prolific author-and discover a page-turning tale. Singh keeps everything interesting as the series goes along. It’s just that with this book I wasn’t that pulled in as much as others, it seems. I still remember in the first book when Dorian hits the floor when the grief of losing his sister engulfs him again, when we’re first introduced to skin privileges between the animals in these characters. So those cats and wolves in this series are my faves. But for some reason, the emotion in some of Psy books hasn’t pulled me in like I expected. I love reading Nalini Singh, no matter what. ![]() As much as I harp about wanting emotion in my reads, with the Psy breaking silence and embracing emotion once again, you’d think I’d be in heaven reading about that. She had contracted Hanson’s Disease (leprosy) as a teenager and was cured though it left her hands gnarled. Trouble comes when it is revealed that the old lady, who had been making bean paste for 50 years, lives in a sanitarium for lepers. One quiet teenage girl strikes up a friendship with the man and the old lady. Soon he gets a following at the stand beyond the usual school girls after they try the dorayaki made with the new paste. It is a very slow method that she teaches him they arrive before dawn and it just read in time for the 11 AM opening. She wins him over by making very, very good red bean paste that is vastly superior to the bean paste-in-a-can he had been using. Translated from Japanese, it is the story of a reluctant dorayaki (a type of pancake filled with sweet bean paste) chef who against his initial impulse hires a woman in her mid-70s to help out at the dorayaki stand.
